Philosophy of Financial Stewardship

Philosophy of Financial Stewardship

The value system of this world seeks to define significance by what we do and what we possess.

We believe our significance comes from who we are in Christ on the basis of salvation by grace through faith. Therefore, we believe it is not possible to love both God and this world system.

We believe what we do with our wealth is an indicator of what or whom we love. If we say we love God, it must be evident in our willingness to give generously to God. We believe both our attitude toward giving and practice of giving indicates our stage of spiritual growth. We believe stewardship growth must be part of an overall discipleship strategy, which includes biblical education, practical training, faithful modeling and consistent encouragement.

We believe everything ultimately belongs to God. We believe we have because God gives. We believe people are granted the privilege and responsibility of stewarding God's wealth. We believe it is required of a steward to be found faithful. The poor should not long to be rich, and the rich should share with those in need and trust God rather than their riches resulting in contentment. We believe as stewards we will be held accountable before God one day for how we have managed what has been entrusted to us.

We believe stewardship is God's way of raising up people, rather than man's way of raising up funds. We do not believe God needs our money. We believe God is a God who gives. Therefore, we are most like Him when we give. We give because it is good for our souls to give. We give because we trust God for our provision. We give to store up for ourselves treasures in heaven. We believe what we give to God we ultimately keep and what we keep we ultimately lose.

Therefore, we should seek to give as much to God as possible. We believe God longs for His people to be channels through which He can pour out His resources to others. Ultimately we believe giving should be done thoughtfully, prayerfully and cheerfully before God as an act of worship.
