Bench Strength — Building our Reserves

God uses and delights in a church that looks like Jesus. To understand what this looks like, we need to grasp God’s heart and plan for the church.

His heart is one that loves and pursues imperfect people — the sinners, the misfits and the losers. God’s plan is to save the lost and then use these redeemed people to change the world.

A church that looks like Jesus serves like Jesus. Jesus came, “…not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45) After He washed the feet of His disciples, He said, “A new commandment I give to you that you love one another, even as I have loved you… by this all men will know that you are my disciples.” — John 13:34, 35

Jesus took on the form of a bond-servant and regarded others as more important than Himself. God’s plan is that we have this same mind and attitude so we can be the hands and feet of Jesus to a needy world.

It is our prayer that Lincoln Berean Church looks and serves like Jesus. Service is a natural outflow of Christ in us. After what He’s done for us, how can we do anything less? It’s at the heart of what it means to follow Him and love Him. It’s not possible to be like Jesus and not serve others.

We want to provide opportunities to accommodate God’s plan for Lincoln Berean, the community and for each individual in the area of service. During the month of May we will be doing an intentional recruitment effort to “strengthen our bench-to build our reserves.”We will be recruiting for substitute positions in areas of ministry-people who would be willing and qualified to step in and step up when needed.

We realize that many of you desire to serve, but because of schedules and responsibilities you aren’t able to commit to a regularlyscheduled position. Serving as a substitute will give you the opportunity to serve within your limitations while strengthening the bench and providing the option for our regular workers to take a break.

Watch for more details next week. Be praying about where the Lord might want you to strengthen the bench. We will also be continuing to recruit for regularly scheduled positions.

You are never more like Jesus than when you serve!
