Finding Your Sweet Spot

Golfers, baseball players and tennis players understand the term “sweet spot”.

It’s a strategically designed area on sports equipment that, when in connection with a ball, produces a perfect hit. However, a sweet spot isn’t limited to sports equipment…YOU have a sweet spot. God gave it to you; in fact, He designed it!

Your sweet spot is at the intersection of your God-given uniqueness (strengths and weaknesses), your everyday life (what you enjoy), and your desire to serve.

Max Lucado calls this convergence the “cure for the common life”.When you are living in your sweet spot, life is out-of-the-ordinary, rewarding and fulfilling.

On Aug. 18/19 and 25/26, we will host our annual Service Expo 07 (previously known as the ministry fair). This will be an opportune time to find your sweet spot-your place of service. During these two weekends you will have the chance to be exposed to the 450+ serving opportunities at Lincoln Berean Church. There will be 23 booths showcasing their ministries-eight faith-based community organizations and 15 LBC ministries. Each booth will have attendants available to answer any questions about their specific ministry.

This year’s theme is Each One Reach One…for Service, emphasizing the fact that personal, one-on-one recruitment is the most effective way to get others involved in service. The purpose of the expo is twofold: to expose and educate the church body to all the ministry areas at LBC, and to provide an opportunity to get involved. During these two weekends, the worship services will focus on the topics of “time and talent”. The Coffee House will be transformed into an early 1900’s town square with special music, cotton candy and ice cream cones. You won’t want to miss this!

Service Expo 07 is an important all-church event because God has designed us for service (I PETER 4:10-11) and He delights in service. Ephesians 6:8 (NCV) says, “Remember that the Lord will give a reward to everyone…for doing good.” He not only equips and strengthens you for service, He even rewards you! It’s a win-win-win situation-you are fulfilled and doing what you were created and saved to do…the body is encouraged and built up… and, most importantly, God is pleased and glorified.

If you are already serving, invite others to join you. If you are not serving, plan to visit the ministry booth of your choice and get involved. If you can’t wait until the Service Expo, then stop by the Service Network booth and we’ll help you find your “sweet spot”.
