Ultimate Spring Break Adventure

How was your spring break? For 39 people, it was the ultimate adventure.

On March 21st, 39 people set out on an adventure with God. For each one it was an opportunity to see God at work in the world in new ways and to ask Him how He wants to use each of us as a part of His great global mission.

We got a good look at life in Europe and North Africa. The way people interacted with each other gave us a deep look into the spiritual need of people in these places. It is clear they know that “something is missing”. Unfortunately, most seem to think that God is irrelevant. The cathedrals are more like museums of religion. Religion is viewed as a relic that once ruled the land but is now just a part of the past like former governments and historical figures.

Elder Board Chairman, Roger Sand, and his wife, Julie, led one of the teams on the Ultimate Spring Break. Here’s what Julie says about the enormous impact of the trip:

“Thinking about the trip, I feel so blessed to be able to see firsthand what God is doing around the world. I feel that I learned things that would have been difficult to learn here at home. I was so impressed with the missionaries, their dedication, energy, and heart for the lost. It was infectious. It was also enlightening to understand their frustrations and needs. I was impressed with their need for communication from home and how even a simple e-mail could bring them to tears. When asked what their local churches were doing for them, there was silence; apparently not much other than financial support. Immediately, I could see a ministry that I could do for them back in the states. I think God really opened my eyes to see possibilities for reaching the lost. I now have a different idea of an effective church plant, one that fits the culture it is planted in and one that may not look anything like the churches we attend. From now on, I know I will take more personal ownership in the mission field, which actually starts in my own backyard and extends around the world. When we send missionaries, we are to pray for them regularly, contact them, and not forget them. That is our awesome responsibility and privilege.”
