Do you see her?

The referral identifies her as Sara; an 11-year-old girl who is in dire need of a home.

She is a smart kid and polite too, most of the time. She has never known her dad; he abandoned the family before her birth. Sara’s mother is unable to care for her because of her addiction. The referral tells us she enjoys sports and drawing and has a good sense of humor. It also says, “She is lonely. She has never had a sense of family; never felt that anyone cares about her.”

James wrote, “This is pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father, to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world” (JAMES 1:27).

The question is: Do you see her? Do you see her isolation, her pain, her longing to be part of a family? Do you realize children in need of a foster home are, in fact, 21st century orphans?

Do you have a spare bedroom? Do you have room in your heart to care for Sara or one of the other nearly 5,000 Nebraska children in our State’s foster care system? Did you know Nebraska ranks #1 nationally in the number of children, per capita, in our foster care system?

Every day at Christian Heritage our telephone rings and we are asked to care for children. Sometimes it is an infant who is unable to be released from a hospital because his or her single mom has tested positive for drugs. Sometimes it is brothers and sisters whose parents have neglected them. Sometimes it is for a teenage boy or for an adolescent girl who has a baby of her own. They are in need of a home…a family.

These kids need someone. Are you willing for that someone to be you? Perhaps you would be willing to pray. We are also seeking Prayer Watchmen to intercede for these children.

To learn more about children who desperately need a home, to find out when the next training begins, or to become a Prayer Watchman, call Christian Heritage at 421-KIDS (5437) and ask for Jeff or e-mail jeffn@chne.org. You will learn that pure and undefiled religion can be a blessing to you and your family.
