Reaching Out... to International Students

God has recently blessed the Lincoln area with a very energetic couple who have a heart to reach international students.

Allow us to introduce Ron and Judy Spaulding who work with International Students, Inc. (ISI). ISI is on hundreds of campuses nationwide and their vision is to see every international student befriended, led to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and discipled for His service.

What you should know about this exciting work:

  • In the four short months that the Spaulding’s have been working in Lincoln, they have made contacts with over 180 international students. Thirty to fifty students attend weekly gatherings in their home.
  • Unlike many campus ministries, ISI depends on the local churches to help them reach international students. ISI allows local believers to do cross-cultural missions, without leaving their hometown.
  • The time commitment can be minimal or extensive depending on how you would like to serve.
  • As we pray for the church in India to be established, we could be reaching out to Indian students here in Lincoln, as they are the third largest group of international students in Lincoln.

How you can get involved in this exciting work:

  • Join their prayer team and pray for them regularly.
  • Attend a Friday night meeting at the Spaulding’s home (7920 Waterford Circle) to catch the vision and meet the students.
  • Ask your LifeGroup to consider ways you could serve as a group (like providing a meal one week, or help provide transportation to the Friday night meetings once-a-month or every couple of months.)
  • Consider welcoming an international student into your home for a night or weekend, so they can experience American culture and hospitality.
  • Provide food for an event, short-term housing, or use your home for a picnic/hayride, etc.
  • Donate ministry funds or bikes to be given away, or winter coats.
  • Drive a van, provide use of a van for a trip, or take a student shopping.
  • Store donated furniture.

The Spauldings will be delighted to visit with you and explain the many areas that are available in which to serve. You can e-mail them at rosaul@frii.com or call 327-0341.
