Refreshing

Ann Williams is one of our many talented visual artists at Lincoln Berean.

We define worship as a way of life. Everything we do as believers can ultimately be worship to God. Visual art is a great way to express one’s heart to God and worship Him.

During today’s service you will see Ann express artistically some of the things portrayed in Psalm 72. Below you can read a note from Ann sharing her thoughts that went into the painting. Ann has created a piece for all 150 Psalms that you can see in the Level 200 E-wing.

When I read Psalm 72,the references to water in one form or another immediately stand out. This caused me to think of phrases like “living water,” “showers of blessing,” etc., and I sketched the image which I am painting today. Just as life is not sustained where there is lack of water, so our lives are without when there is an absence of God. This passage in Psalms speaks to me of the refreshing quality of life when one has a personal relationship with the Lord.

In order to artistically portray these thoughts, the painting is created using very watered down paints in shades of blue. Since the original work I did for the Who Is He? series was focused on the names and character qualities of God, you will see that each droplet of water contains one of these descriptions. Examples include: righteous, endures forever, saves, rescues, and worthy. As the drops fall toward the bottom of the canvas, they pool into the word REFRESHING which sums up the entirety of the work. The black lines reveal the grid to which paint was added and contain the words Lord and God. The motion of the piece is painted in such a way to emphasize this idea that the Lord is the water that refreshes and brings life to the soul.

I hope as you watch the process of this painting, you will be able to worship and meditate on the change that God brings into life, and experience anew the refreshing, amazing and awesome qualities of our Lord.
