Being Single in God’s Family

How would you feel at church if you were single?

That’s a question many of us never consider as we engage in life at Lincoln Berean. If you’re married, most of your decisions about church involvement probably involve directly, or at least indirectly, how it affects your spouse and your life together. Great opportunities for couples abound and we strive to help strengthen marriages and families. For singles however, choices to participate or become involved often run through a much different thought process.

For many singles, church may seem like a place for couples, and just finding a safe, connecting point can be a challenge. Being isolated or alone is not God’s intention for any of us, single or married, and our goal is for everyone to join with others in order to become complete in Christ.

In a church our size, we recognize the vast diversity of all the singles in our midst and the need to offer multiple avenues for them to meet, connect, and grow in healthy relationships with others, whether single or married. Singles 40+ Ministry is building a Directional Team so this process can be easier for all singles in the church family. Initial connecting points need to be a right fit for each individual, at whatever stage or circumstances they are in life. This may be one-to-one, in a support or LifeGroup, or in larger events and activities we offer.

Team leaders have been working to develop multiple pathways for all Singles 40+ to find a safe, welcome door into church family life. LifeGroups, service ministries, support groups, men’s and women’s ministry activities, affinity and hobby groups, and large group events are the focus of each team leader’s individual responsibilities.

We’re excited how the Singles 40+ Ministry is developing. Look for more information in the coming months. If you would like to receive the Singles 40+ monthly newsletter, please contact Kathy Hamm at the church office, 483-6512,or khamm@lincolnberean.org.

Being single does provide unique challenges many of us don’t often consider, but it also offers tremendous freedom and an opportunity to engage in God’s eternal plans for the kingdom, that only singles can experience.
