Six Lessons on the Basics of Prayer
Pastor Clark is writing six lessons on Prayer that will be available for groups, families or individuals.
The first is ready now and can be picked up at the Publications Center. (Note: There will be no study questions after April 1/2, until Sep. 2/3.) Throughout our study in Acts, it has become evident that prayer was a major focus in the New Testament Church. Prayer was an emphasis because they had to pray. The Church was overwhelmed with the mission to which Jesus had called them. They were excited, afraid, confused and totally dependent upon the direction and power of Jesus to accomplish this mission. This drove them to their knees. So too, the Church today is called to a mission far bigger than we are. We, too, are in way over our heads. We are grossly inadequate for our calling. We're excited, afraid, confused and totally dependent upon the direction and power of Jesus to accomplish the mission we have been given. As with the first century church, this should drive us to our knees daily in prayer. Does it? This short study is intended to generate discussion concerning the basics of prayer. Specifically, we will look at some of what Jesus had to say about prayer in the Gospels. The lessons do not build on one another, so each lesson can be studied and discussed independently of the others. Try to work your way through these lessons some time between Easter and the middle of August.
