Developing the Christian Mind
Twenty-nine students learned the importance of loving God with their minds in the first Worldview Studies course.
“Developing the Christian Mind” introduced the history of ideas that have shaped our current mindset and taught us how to apply critical thinking skills to basic questions such as, “What do we know and how do we know it?” “What is real?” and “What role does God play in our world?”
Student Terry Zoucha found the class challenging and rewarding; “Challenging, because for me it was stimulatingly difficult. It was rewarding because the course was worthwhile and satisfying… learning from the teachers, other students, as well as the text.”
The five-week course was taught by Melanie Armstrong, PhD, Mark Mathewson, PhD and Doug Erlandson, PhD. Mark Mathewson states, “I was greatly encouraged to see Christians taking seriously the command to love God with their minds---and enjoying it! The students thought deeply about some difficult, but important, philosophical issues that bear directly on the Christian worldview. I was impressed with their willingness to dive into the material and thoughtfully engage the readings and class discussions.”
Session II, “Navigating Through a World of Ideas” began on October 12. Watch the Tidings and the Christian Leadership College Web site, www.christianleadershipcollege.org, for information about upcoming courses.
