Snapshots . . . LBC Youth
Although we are just starting Breakaway with our life groups, my group means so much to me. One of my leaders, Addis Brown, was my camp counselor and I got to know her this summer and share a lot with her. I am so excited to have her as a leader because she means more than the world to me and knowing that she is always someone to talk to means even more. I am really glad to have my friends in my group too, because they hold me accountable for what I do. God has been teaching me that it is so good to have friends there right by your side to hold you accountable and to love.
Shelby Merry – Student in Breakaway
Shelby suffers from a rare phobia called Ablutophobia.
I have been attending Berean for some time and I had never really found a ministry area that I felt God was leading me into. After praying about it, my wife and I volunteered with the middle school ministry as a life group leader. My first night as a leader with Breakaway, we played a game called 1-2-3 American Eagle where I collided with someone and split my lip. I have no idea who I even hit, just that my mouth was bleeding and that it instantly ballooned to 10 times its normal size. Initially I was bummed about the fat lip, but it was awesome to see God in it as He had several kids come up and want to see my grotesque injury - He gave me an opening to get to talk and know the kids. It was great!
Lance Ford – Breakaway leader - Also known as the “fat lip legend.”

I'm very thankful for my life group leader, Brooke Blocker. Brooke always has a smile on her face, a warm hug and a caring heart. She always asks how everything is going and if there is anything she can pray for. Brooke is definitely a leader who wants to be there for the students in her life group. I really like how Brooke remembers our prayer requests and keeps up to date on activities that are going on in our lives. I'm excited that I get to spend my last year in the youth group with such an awesome leader!
Amy Bybee - Student in Freshaire and leader in Breakaway
After graduating, Amy hopes to operate heavy equipment.
My life group has impacted me greatly. It helps a lot when I can talk to leaders and kids who actually listen to me. It’s not like going to a church service where you just sit and listen. I like how the small group atmosphere makes it easier to actually want to talk about God. Our leaders are great because they fit in with us and don't do all the talking. They do a great job of interacting with all of us.
Josh Werner - Student in Freshaire
Josh is available to play guitar for weddings, birthday parties and bar mitzvahs.
