Bible 101

Sundays, January 08 - January 29, 4:00PM - 5:30PM

Have you ever focused on reading and studying one book of the Bible over a month to not only discover what the words say but, more importantly, to learn to study it in a way so that God can reveal even more Truth to you? Bible 101 will give you an opportunity to focus on one book of the Bible for four weeks as we learn how to read and study the Bible, as well as, gain insight into taking notes, researching and allowing the Bible to come alive in us. We'll spend four weeks investigating the book of Nehemiah. If you are a person that believes that the best days are in front of you and that God can use normal people to do extraordinary things, join us for Bible 101.

Generosity 101

Thursdays, January 12 - January 26, 7:00PM - 8:30PM

Money. It runs the world and can often run us without us even knowing it. It is also often a hush, hush topic. You can never ask someone how much they make or tithe or how much they spent on a big purchase. What if money was a front door to our hearts; something that could expose and shed light on how we interact with God and others. Have you ever thought about inviting other people in to help you decide how to spend and give money? Studying generosity could be the spark that ignites your relationship with God and enables you to view his world and your stuff differently.

Cost: $10. Location: The Marvin residence.

Evangelism 101

Tuesdays, January 10 - January 31, 7:00PM - 8:30PM

Evangelism. When you hear that word you may get excited, terrified or apathetic, but what does evangelism really mean? What would your school and your community look like if you were a gifted evangelist? Wherever you land on the spectrum of emotions when it comes to evangelism, we can all take steps to help share Jesus with the world. This 101 will take a look at evangelism and what Jesus has to say about it and practically present steps to help you grow in sharing Jesus.

Cost: $10. Location: Youth office.

Apologetics 101

Saturdays, January 07 - January 28, 5:00PM - 6:30PM

Apologetics. It's a big, religious word that can stop people from finding out more about it or how it can help you grow in your understanding and relationship with God. Apologetics is defined as the branch of theology concerned with the defense or proof of Christianity. Have you ever wondered how if God was such a loving God, why there are pain and evil in the world? How about how can Christians explain evolution and science in a way that brings people to Jesus instead of away from Him? Have you ever wondered how to answer other religions that accuse Christianity of being narrow-minded and judgmental for claiming Jesus to be the only way to Heaven? We will dive into these questions and more as we look to answer some of the tough questions Christianity deals with.

Cost: $10. Location: Youth office.

Agora Fellowship

New Sessions Begin Each Fall

Leadership for the Common Good

In ancient Greek, the agora was a gathering place in the middle of a city that served as the center for commerce, politics, education, the arts, religion and civic life. What happened in the agora shaped the society as a whole. Not much has changed. Today the ideas and practices that flow from the academies, churches/temples/synagogues, businesses, houses of government and studios profoundly change and shape the society in which we live.

Purpose
The Agora Fellowship equips young professionals to integrate their Christian commitment and vocation enabling them to impact their professions for God’s kingdom and to be agents of cultural renewal.

Description
The Fellowship is a nine-month intensive program designed to provide young professionals with a solid base of theological, ethical and cultural understanding. Through weekly readings and discussions, monthly gatherings, and one-on-one mentoring with a mature person in their profession, Fellows will develop as influential leaders in their professions who can serve effectively as ambassadors for God’s kingdom and contribute to the common good locally, regionally, nationally and even internationally.

Requirements include:
· Complete weekly readings
· Attend and participate in weekly discussions over the readings
· Attend monthly gatherings to meet with guest speakers or go on excursions in and around the city of Lincoln
· Complete 2-3 written assessments over the course of the nine months
- Book fee of approximately $140

Who should apply?
Men and women, 25-35 years of age, working in fields including higher education, law, medicine, the sciences, media, arts, government and business/finance. The applicant should (1) be currently employed full-time, (2) have at least a year of working experience in his or her profession, (3) possess clear and strong Christian commitment and character and (4) desire to use his or her position of leadership to influence the culture for God’s kingdom and the common good.

If you'd like to hear more about the Agora Fellowship, check out our promotional video.
