*Section Communities

-

From the beginning of the Bible to the end, it’s a story of community. God deeply values community.

We understand that in a larger church it can be very difficult to get connected. We also understand that small groups can be an intimidating place to start, and our worship gatherings are so large it can be challenging to actually meet people. So that’s where section communities come in–essentially, section communities are made up of people who connect weekly by sitting in the same section of the auditorium when we gather together as the church.

God doesn’t just want to do something in you as you gather with the church, he also wants to do something through you in the lives of others around you. We encourage you to come a little bit earlier or stay a few minutes later and have a conversation.

2017 High School Road Trip

Various Dayss, June 05 - June 10,

We are excited to announce that this summer's high school event is a road trip! We will be visiting a handful of cities and making an impact in them by serving in the local communities!

Each day we will visit a new city where we will be serving in soup kitchens, homeless shelters, food banks or anywhere else that needs a helping hand to accomplish their goals. We will be sleeping in local churches, eating simply, and always be ready to impact the community we are currently in.

This week will be about students and volunteers who are willing to live a week unplugged from normal culture and focus on the needs of other people. As we travel, we will learn who Jesus simply is and will then put into practice what we have learned. This will be a week of service and relationships that you will not want to forget!

Before registering, please visit our website, www.lbcyouth.org, for further details, including requirements and student expectations for this trip.

Questions? Contact LBCYouth at lbcyouth@lincolnberean.org.

Agora Fellowship

New Sessions Begin Each Fall

Leadership for the Common Good

In ancient Greek, the agora was a gathering place in the middle of a city that served as the center for commerce, politics, education, the arts, religion and civic life. What happened in the agora shaped the society as a whole. Not much has changed. Today the ideas and practices that flow from the academies, churches/temples/synagogues, businesses, houses of government and studios profoundly change and shape the society in which we live.

Purpose
The Agora Fellowship equips young professionals to integrate their Christian commitment and vocation enabling them to impact their professions for God’s kingdom and to be agents of cultural renewal.

Description
The Fellowship is a nine-month intensive program designed to provide young professionals with a solid base of theological, ethical and cultural understanding. Through weekly readings and discussions, monthly gatherings, and one-on-one mentoring with a mature person in their profession, Fellows will develop as influential leaders in their professions who can serve effectively as ambassadors for God’s kingdom and contribute to the common good locally, regionally, nationally and even internationally.

Requirements include:
· Complete weekly readings
· Attend and participate in weekly discussions over the readings
· Attend monthly gatherings to meet with guest speakers or go on excursions in and around the city of Lincoln
· Complete 2-3 written assessments over the course of the nine months
- Book fee of approximately $140

Who should apply?
Men and women, 25-35 years of age, working in fields including higher education, law, medicine, the sciences, media, arts, government and business/finance. The applicant should (1) be currently employed full-time, (2) have at least a year of working experience in his or her profession, (3) possess clear and strong Christian commitment and character and (4) desire to use his or her position of leadership to influence the culture for God’s kingdom and the common good.

If you'd like to hear more about the Agora Fellowship, check out our promotional video.

Let Justice Roll

Sundays, June 04 - July 23, 9:00AM - 10:15AM

There is no shortage of talk about justice and appeals to justice in our culture. In most of these interactions, people take justice to be a political, legal, or ethical issue. It is also a theological one. This class attempts to develop a biblical theology of justice.

We will seek to arrive at an understanding of the concept of justice from both a survey of the biblical teaching of justice in the Old and New Testaments and a careful reading of Tim Keller's book Generous Justice: How God's Grace Makes Us Just. We will discover that justice has more to do with the gospel and living as a disciple of Jesus than most Christians think. Additionally, our findings will cause us to rethink what it means for God to be just.

Parenting Through the Hard Times

Sundays, May 21 - June 11, 10:45AM - 12:00PM

Have you ever thought, "There seems to be a little more to my child's behavior than just kid stuff. It shouldn't be this hard!"?
Sometimes we need to take a step back and look at what's going on around our children to understand what's going on inside our children. Bullying, divorce, learning disabilities, foster care, mental illness, serious medical issues temperament etc. These are normal influencers of behavior, but they often cause more intense responses, can be confusing to deal with, and might leave children (AND parents) needing more support.

This class will help you learn to step back and assess your children’s environment to understand how it affects them behaviorally. You'll be able to see the why, not just the how. Learn to address the environment in love and grace, how to use supports, and what it takes to foster change.
We will cover:
- The definition of childhood trauma
- The effects of trauma on development
- The effects of trauma on perception
- The long term effects of trauma
- How to help a traumatized child
- Secondary trauma
- The spiritual effects of trauma

Location: D 103. No cost.
