What do LifeGroups do?
Because of the various ways that groups can be organized, it is difficult to give a succinct answer to that question! Since God is doing different things in each of our lives (and therefore in each group as well), we are wary of putting a box around what a group has to study or do each week. Broadly speaking, it is our aim that every group be RELATIONAL and MISSIONAL.

  • Relational - every person engaged in spiritual friendships navigating life with biblical truth.
  • Missional - every person engaged in each one reach one with intentionality.

So, our groups vary widely. However, the aim is always to encourage and spur one another on in the Christian walk, and to lift one another up in prayer as each seeks to embody Jesus' command to love God with our whole self and love our neighbors as we do ourselves.

When do LifeGroups meet? One is probably meeting right now. That is to say, they meet all over town throughout the week in a group setting, or one member with another for coffee or just hanging out. That means there is probably a group that would fit your schedule.

How long will a group meet?  Some groups may meet 2-3 years or longer, some may meet only a few months, and some may change at semester intervals.

How long do meetings last? Each group determines the length of their own meeting. Individuals often vary that, even within their own groups, depending on schedules, other family member activities, and life demands.  The typical group meeting lasts for a couple hours or so.

What is the format of a LifeGroup? Groups have varied formats, even from one gathering to the next.  Some groups meet for study of the Bible or topical issues within a biblical framework.  Other groups may meet for the purpose of service in the church or within the community.  Still others meet for shared hobbies, recreational activity, or pursuit of a common interest.  Other groups may meet to share common interests or needs related to male and female gender issues, or their support and recovery efforts.  Each group maintains autonomous freedom to determine the exact format of their particular group.  We encourage all groups to explore ways they can learn to support each other through prayer.

Is childcare provided? Each group decides how this will happen.

What do groups study? Groups that choose to do a study as a primary activity focus while gathered, often use the pre-printed sermon note questions that accompany each weekly worship service.  Other groups determine their own course of study, using one of the many curriculums offered through our church leadership library.  The focus of some groups may be primarily outreach than formal Bible study.

What if I join a group that isn't a right "fit" for me?   We realize that a group may not be an exact perfect fit for everyone.  Interpersonal relationship dynamics are unique to each situation and we encourage folks to continue seeking new opportunities for connecting in group relationships if one group isn't what a person wants or needs.  Talking with the group leader, a pastor, or the LifeGroup Administrative Assistant may be helpful to determine whether to stay in a group, or try another LifeGroup.
