Who are we and what do we do?

LBC Youth Staff 2007-2008

Below is a short description of our staff team for 2007-2008. Our goal was to put together a staff with character, competency and Christ-like hearts to help teens become authentic followers of Jesus. This is a new staff model for the youth ministry. We are very excited about the impact it will have.

Pastor of Student Ministries — Ty Thomas
Ty is a shepherd at heart. He loves spending time with students and leaders, finding out their individual story with God and helping them take the next step in their journey with God. He serves as the Ministry Area Leader and in addition to teaching, will give oversight and direction to the Youth Ministry.

Associate Youth Minister — Mike Smith
Mike is the newest full-time addition to our youth staff and will focus on helping our students have a heart for outreach and discipleship-making.Mike is a recent Grace University student where he was an All-American basketball player. For the past few years he has been working in Omaha with Youth for Christ and is very passionate about helping students reach out to their peers with the love of Christ in a way they can understand.
Administrative Assistant — Brooke Blocker
Brooke is such a key person on our team. She is the really nice gal from the Youth Ministry that you may have talked to on the phone. Brooke does a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff to keep our ministry running smoothly. She is passionate about reaching out to students and helps lead one of our Freshaire house groups.
Breakaway Director/Big Event Coordinator — Kathy Kroeker
Kathy has been volunteering at LBC for years in the children’s ministry, Jr. Camp and even with the high school Mexico trip this past year. She will be joining the team as part-time staff to help direct details of the middle school program and to help with big events.

They help make decisions and give advice to the staff on issues of programming, teaching and vision for the future. Some of the members of this team have students in the ministry or are in positions in the church that give them special insight into the ministry. We spend time praying together and yes, we like to have fun together as well. LBC Youth Basic Overview

Breakaway-Middle School

WEEKLY

Sunday Mornings, 10:45 a.m. in the Youth Complex
Our goal is to assist parents in the spiritual formation of their students. Sunday mornings are a time of Bible training, worship and drama in a setting just for teens. After combined worship with the high school, middle school students will break up into smaller groups for more specific teaching. Sometimes the groups will meet according to grades or gender and other times it will be electives.

Wednesday Night Breakaway, 6:30 p.m. in the Youth Complex
This is our lifegroup ministry for middle school students. We desire that students learn how to care for each other in a smaller group. Each student will have a caring adult in their small group that will be helping them study the Bible and modeling for them how to care for others as the church.

MONTHLY

Sunday Night Hang Time, 6:30-8:00 p.m., held in Host Homes
We meet as grades in different host homes from that grade once each month on a Sunday night. It gives us a great time of hanging out in an informal setting, having fun with kids your age and studying the Bible together.

OTHER

Fall Retreat
This is the best way for students to get involved at the beginning of the school year. Every middle school student should come on this retreat as we make memories that last the entire year!

Student Impact
This is for our student leaders who really want to serve and dig deeper in their personal walk with God. These students will meet regularly to encourage each other and see how we as a group can better reach out. Special Events — There will be a number of special events throughout the year to help students, parents and leaders have fun together and grow in their faith.

Freshaire-High School

WEEKLY

Sunday Mornings, 10:45 a.m. in the Youth Complex
Our desire is not just to educate students with the Bible, but to help them be transformed by it so that it infects every area of their lives. With student-led worship, Bible teaching and drama we hope to ignite them to action! We will be combined with the middle school for worship and then split up into smaller groups of other high school students.

Midweek House Groups – Mon., Tues.,Wed., Thur., 7 p.m. in Host Homes
In a big church like ours, this is really the best place for a student to get plugged in relationally and learn what it means to care for others. We will offer this in homes across the city on four different nights of the week.

MONTHLY

First Sunday Night, 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Youth Complex
We will gather all of the Freshaire house groups once each month for extended worship, testimonies, food, teaching and lots of fun! Any high school student and leader is welcome to come and try it out.

OTHER

Fall Retreat
This is the best way for students to connect at the first of the school year. In addition to great worship and powerful Bible teaching, this is a time to get together in small groups and make new friendships!

Student Ministry Team
This group of students gives input and direction to the high school ministry. In addition to helping plan events and evaluate the ministry, they are expected to have a passion for God and a passion for others in their lives.

Special Events
There will be a number of special events throughout the year to help students, parents and leaders have fun together and grow in their faith. Check out our web site at www.lbcyouth.org for the latest info and pics!
