Christ's Motive for Giving

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume and where thieves do not break through and steal."
--MATTHEW 6:19-20.
MOTIVE is necessary to induce action in all intelligent life. We do what we do because we have a reason, consciously or unconsciously, for doing it. Giving money is hard for the flesh. It is a veritable crucifixion of the selfish life. It takes, then, the mightiest motives to move us outward from self to the needs of others. What is the great and sufficient motive which our Lord presents? This we will do well to know and use.
