Haiti Disaster Relief

I'm certain you are all aware of the devastation in Haiti. In times like this people are moved emotionally and often want to help which is great. However, all too often money that is given in these situations doesn't end up where you think it's going. This has been true in almost all these big disasters. We are very confident in recommending money be donated to The Nebraska Global Orphan Project (formerly 'One Cause'). This ministry is run by members of LBC including members of our business team. They are well equipped to make sure the money goes to disaster relief in Haiti where it is most needed.

NEW UPDATE FROM THE NEBRASKA GLOBAL ORPHAN PROJECT as of 3.23.10
Below is an update from The Nebraska Global Orphan Project on how your support has helped care for orphaned and abandoned kids in the wake of the Haiti earthquake:
By the grace of God, a targeted plan, and through your generous support, our collective efforts to date helped:

(1) care for the 2,000 plus GO children in Haiti before the quake (no fatalities or injuries!);
(2) care for more than 500 orphaned and abandoned children at the Orphan Transition Village (OTV) and multiple other sites;
(3) reunite 87 children with their families;
(4) meet basic nutritional and medical needs for thousands of other Haitians, with priority emphasis on orphaned and vulnerable children;
(5) create local jobs, assisting in redevelopment and keeping families together.

Pastor Moise Vaval, The Global Orphan Field Director, has served at the heart of this effort. He’s done so amidst the loss of his precious 8-year-old son, Jean-Mark. Our partners at Global Orphan in KC have been there from day one and will continue to serve daily. So many of you have given from your souls to fuel this effort! All of the pieces fit perfectly together to accomplish this great work. So we thank you for what you've done and feel confident that God is orchestrating this effort. He deserves all credit for the good fruit.

A CBS, 60 Minutes crew followed our partners for 5 weeks in Haiti. You can see the program that aired Sunday evening March 21 @ the link below.

PREVIOUS UPDATE FROM THE NEBRASKA GLOBAL ORPHAN PROJECT (1.27.10)
We would like to update you on how the generous gift from Lincoln Berean has been used to help with the present Orphan Crisis in Port-au-Prince (POP). $38,000 from Berean attenders (the generous gift of $28,000 from the Christmas eve offering plus another $10,000 given to us Sunday Jan 17) has been sent to our partners on-the-ground facilitating the rescue of many abandoned orphans from the earthquake. They have sent 3 teams into the worst hit areas where they are taking in children wandering on the street, children that the main hospital does not have room for and most recently were told about 50 children hiding out in a basement. They took them in too.

The plan is to sustain basic care and safety of the 2000 existing children in The Global Orphan Project care before the earthquake and also take in kids as the Lord directs into a temporary transition village which will hold up to 500 children. They are trying to get as much information from each child as they can and then will try to locate any relatives and reunite them. The Transition village exists to provide very basic care - a safe and caring place to live with loving supervision and just the basics. After 120 days they will then transition the remaining children into existing orphan villages and will most probably need to develop new villages. Each village will give the children a more stable future through church-based, culturally relevant, sustainable orphan care.

Multiple 40 ft containers of tents, tarps, meds, food, beds and mats are in route to Dominican Republic.

All giving is being used wisely and every penny is going to the kids....100%! The people going into Haiti are mostly volunteer and pay their own way. The few paid staff are covered by a foundation in Kansas City.

Again, thank you so very much for caring for the orphans of Haiti in their distress.
